one of the most scenic wildlife landscapes in Madhya Pradesh. Known for its teak forests,
open meadows and riverine belts, Pench is famous for Bengal tigers, wild dogs, leopards,

Collarwali – The Supermom of Pench
Collarwali, born in 2005 to the famous tigress Badi Mada, became Pench’s most iconic tiger.
She earned her name after being fitted with a radio collar for early wildlife research in
the reserve. Over the years, she became known for her bold nature, calm temperament around
vehicles, and her remarkable ability to raise cubs successfully in the wild.
In her lifetime, Collarwali gave birth to 8 litters and raised 26 cubs, the highest number
ever recorded for a wild tigress in India. This extraordinary contribution helped revive
Pench’s tiger population and turned her into a symbol of strength and motherhood.
Tourists often spotted her confidently patrolling her territory or caring for her cubs,
making her a beloved figure in the reserve. Even forest guards spoke of her intelligence,
hunting skills, and unusual tolerance of human presence.
Collarwali passed away in January 2022, leaving behind a powerful legacy. Today, many of her
offspring rule different parts of Pench, and she is remembered as the “Queen of Pench” and a
true Supermom who shaped the future of the forest.
